About the event

Now in its fifth year, Chester Heritage Festival is gathering momentum and going from strength to strength: we have so much to show you and so many stories to tell.

This year, as last, our programme embraces the spectacular Midsummer Watch parades as well as a host of city tours, roman patrols, and character led entertainment – any excuse to dress up!  The Festival also has a waterways theme for many of the events, such as canal and riverside walks, boat trips on the River Dee and stories about Chester’s role as a major medieval port … and the chance of a `heritage swim` at Chester’s historic City Baths.   We will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Chester’s first conservation area, the centenary of a local walking club, the 150th anniversary of our Town Hall and of Grosvenor Rowing Club, the 170th Anniversary of the Archaeological Society and 480 years of racing in Chester. You will have the chance

Thanks to our sponsors, all the above is preceded by a new and exciting Education Programme for local school children.  We hope they, and you, will enjoy this year’s Festival and learn more about the 2000-year history of our beautiful city.
