About the event

The history of Chester’s amphitheatre site goes back over 8000 years, and for this year’s Festival the Chester Archaeological Society (CAS) produced a Covid-19 safe virtual tour that outlines the key features of the site.  It is very much a place that people have kept returning to right up to the present day!  A group of CAS members met at the amphitheatre and recorded and filmed the tour on a warm afternoon in May 2021.

The virtual tour which takes around forty five minutes, discusses the key features of one the largest amphitheatres in the United Kingdom such as the rare tethering stone and the excavations of 1929, 1960, 1968 and 2004-6. Seven areas of the amphitheatre are ‘visited’ on the tour with insights given at each spot.

Your virtual tour guide is CAS Vice President Dr Peter Carrington, the film crew Council members Julian Baum and Andrew Reynolds.

The film will be premiered here at 10am on Saturday 26 June.
