John Herson of the Inland Waterways Association and Chester Civic Trust, takes us on a fascinating walk around Chester's historic waterways. John discusses the waterways from their inception - and why Chester became an important Roman port - through the industrial ages until the present day.

Chester was designated a Heritage Port in 2021. This recognised that its fascinating waterways were fundamental to the city’s growth and that today its rich collection of maritime and inland waterway features is a major asset to the city which is of national importance.
